This song talks about a cold day and a great place to read a book it’s a very reflective song with lyrics that let the listener interpret it as a love song as much as a sad song about life in general. Despite the sad vibes this 1996 song became the theme for a primetime soap opera in Brazil in 1997 solidifying its way into the history of Brazilian music.

Djavan’s 1994 album Malásia

Nem um Dia was track #3 in the album Malásia that, uncommon for the artist’s work featured songs written by other composers like Brazilian great Chico Buarque with Luiz Bonfá in the track Correnteza.

In the album Djavan showcases an introspective almost melancholic side of his music which is evident in Nem um Dia.

Djavan and the United States

Djavan toured a few times in the United States. In 1982 Sony, at the time CBS, signed Djavan and the singer recorded the album Luz in the country. The biggest hit from that album is Samurai which has Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica in it. Like Samurai hints in this album, Earlier in his career Malaysia shows a more fun, funky Djavan.

Djavan toured multiple times and achieved considerable success receiving compliments from important people like Quincy Jones.

With 71 years old Djavan would be touring the US for the third time in 2020 but his shows got postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Nem um Dia is the type of song that got so deep in the Brazilian culture that it got stuck in the minds of people like me who grew up in the 90s and it got posted because I simply woke up with the first verse in my head that day. The song reminds me of my hometown and waking up in the winter as a child to watch cartoons on TV.
